The main objective of this systematic review is to analyze the main findings on skimming and scanning techniques as a didactic reading strategy in the five-year period 2019-2023. Likewise, the study is a systematic review, since it locates relevant literature that meets the inclusion criteria / exclusion previously established. Forty scientific articles were selected from the academic search engines Redalyc, Dialnet, Scielo, and Google Scholar, the most research was located in Indonesia (23). Questionnaires were applied in 67.50\% of the articles. Among the main contributions it was considered that this strategy has a great impact on the reading ability of students. Concluding that the main advantage of skimming is the agile review of texts that have been studied, while through scanning it is possible to locate specific information in a text. It is recommended that the skimming technique be used, since it serves to find general data and be applied in pre-reading, while scanning helps identify words that serve as a guide to understand the content of the topic.
