Maternal death is an unfortunate event with negative consequences for the family and society. According to the OMS, by 2015, 830 deaths occurred every day worldwide due to complications related to pregnancy or childbirth, being a public health problem that has been exacerbated by the impact of Covid-19. Therefore, this article aims to review the updated information to carry out an analysis of maternal mortality in Peru and the need to provide quality humanized services, as well as activate public policies that help mitigate the negative effects of the pandemic, which was evidenced in the increase in maternal deaths that ocurred in the years 2022-2022. A bibliographic review of open access and qualitative articles was carried out, in the period between 2018-2022, in the SCOPUS, Web of Sciences and Scielo databases. Obtaining as a result that Covid-19 appears as the first indirect cause of maternal death in Peru since the beginning of the pandemic, with the presence of comorbidities that lead to death. However, there is no evidence of vertical transmission from mother to child, so exclusive breastfeeding should be promoted, accompanied by biosecurity measures. It is concluded that for Peru the presence of Covid-19 increases the risk of obstetric morbidity and perinatal mortality, associated with preterm births and the public policies implemented in Peru were late and ineffective, not giving the expected results.
