This research aimed to determine the influence of family functionality and criminal-violent behavior on the social skills of children of absent parents from educational institutions in the city of Chiclayo. It constituted a study with a quantitative approach, of a basic or pure type, with a non-experimental, cross-sectional, multivariate explanatory design. The sample consisted of 301 subjects between the ages of 12 and 18, children of absent parents who study in three educational institutions in the town. In this way, instruments adapted to the context were used, such as the Family Cohesion and Adaptability Scale- FACES III, the Criminal and Violent Behavior Scale, and the Gismero List of Social Skills. The results showed through the statistical model an adjusted R2 coefficient=.179, indicating that 17.9% of the variability in social skills is due to the influence of family functionality and violent criminal behavior, and through the analysis of variance confirms that the model found fits the data (p<.001). It is concluded that family functionality and violent criminal behavior significantly influence social skills in children of parents absent from educational institutions.
