The present investigation had as objective to analyze the critical thinking of Socrates for the development of philosophical competences.It proposes to approach in the light of philosophy the critical thinking of Sócrates and his contributions to pedagogy and contemporary philosophy from an exhaustive bibliographic review and methodical selection of various philosophical articles published in the scientific databases Scopus, Dielnet, Scielo, indexed in databases of worldwide prestige. After the bibliographical review and the respective research, it is concluded that the critical thinking of the ancient philosopher and educator Socrates is related to three main axes: the Socratic method, the techniques of the Socratic method, and the contributions of Socrates to contemporary philosophical and pedagogical thought.
