The objective of this bibliometric review was to analyze the scientific production on the evolution of reading skills in virtual environments by university students. A longitudinal descriptive bibliometric examination of articles published in the Scopus database was carried out, using keywords such as “Reading Skills”, “Virtual Environments” and “Higher Education” in English and Spanish. A total of 209 relevant documents published in the period between January 2002 and December 2023 were identified and analyzed, using tools such as Datawrapper, Bibliometrix and VOS viewer. The research addresses various dimensions of reading skills, from its theoretical conceptualization to practical application in virtual contexts, with a particular emphasis on the performance of university students. The results revealed that the reading ability in virtual environments by university students is a relevant topic, of increasing productivity, whose study is addressed mainly from the practical perspective of classroom strategies, and scarce in educational theory.
