Process management has the purpose of organizing, directing and controlling the work activities of a public entity transversally to the different organizational units, to contribute to the achievement of institutional objectives. Therefore, implementing process management in both public and private entities generates a positive impact, however, its implementation is gradual and requires the commitment of the entire entity from senior management; Therefore, the objective of this work is to analyze the characteristics of implementing the process management methodology in different areas of private companies, as well as in public entities; for efficient resource management. Methodologically, we carried out a systematic literature review (PRISMA) of 40 scientific articles selected from the Scopus and Scielo databases. As a first result, we identified an investigative predominance in the tools used for data analysis such as: Ishikawa Diagram, diagramming and documentation of operational processes, Wilcoxon hypothesis testing, Verification sheet, Pareto diagram, control chart and histogram. Finally, at a methodological level, we identify the research carried out between 2019 and 2022 that presents a balance in the use of quantitative and qualitative approaches, followed incipiently by mixed designs.
