Participatory environmental education is considered a dynamic and participatory process that seeks to awaken in the population an awareness that allows them to identify with environmental issues, the objective of the study was to determine how participatory environmental education strengthens environmental governance in the local government of Metropolitan Lima. The research was developed under a qualitative approach, the design used was phenomenological and hermeneutic under the inductive method; the information obtained was based on the interview technique and as an instrument an interview form, which were applied to seven participants including representatives of local government and organized civil society, The results showed that there were deficiencies in the practice of participatory environmental education in some issues of environmental governance as the collective work among all stakeholders and the creation and implementation of proposals on the environment from the local level are not executed as proposed. It was concluded that there was limited progress and a slight commitment of the local government and civil actors to the duties and commitments demanded by civil society regarding environmental care.
