The purpose of the study is to make visible one of the rights that the penitentiary organs leave aside in the treatment of persons deprived of their liberty, we refer to the right to a life project. Thus, with a qualitative methodology, applying the analysis of the documentary source and from a hermeneutic, systematic and comparative method, the study describes the way in which this right is exercised in prisons, analyzes the effectiveness of the existing norm and from there, identifies the challenges involved in its full compliance and the possibilities to make effective the desired integral process of resocialization of this sector of the population. Although there is a political philosophy and valid instruments and programs have been approved to meet this goal, the facts show that we are still far from complying with international standards, which, as a country, we are obliged to implement.
