In recent years, university scientific production has increased, but at the expense of health sciences work, which is why this research proposes “Proposing a formative research model for research competencies in students of a Professional School of a University of Lambayeque”. Basic research was carried out with a quantitative approach of a descriptive, purposeful non-experimental design, in the population of university students from a professional school at a university in Lambayeque. All enrolled students participated in the study; It was found that 75.9% have a medium level of investigative competencies, 19.28% a high level and only 4.82% have a low level of investigative competencies. 45.78% sometimes have knowledge to carry out the methodological framework of a research project; 56.63% sometimes consider that they have the knowledge to carry out the methodological framework of a research project. It was concluded that: the proposal of the formative research model for students of a professional school of a university in Lambayeque based on the level of competencies they have will be based on applying learning sessions and research incubators.
