The research was a qualitative case study, descriptive level and cross-sectional design, the objective was to determine the inefficiency of public spending in lagging areas of Peru in the period 2020 to 2023; the hypothesis indicated that there is inefficiency of public spending in lagging areas of Peru in the period 2020 to 2023; For data collection, observation and content analysis were used. The results reveal that according to the MEF’s Economic Transparency Portal, only 48.6% of the total money held by regional governments has been executed, thus, Huánuco is the region that occupies the last place in execution of public spending and only has spent 17.3%.
