The objective of this article was to know the results of efficiency and effectiveness variables in the execution of public works, which allows to propose corrective actions and identify opportunities for improvement through public policies. Regarding methodology used, a bibliographic review article was carried out with a mixed approach where an analytical and empirical process of the most relevant existing information of the last 5 years of journals indexed in reliable databases is presented, with inadequate levels of efficiency as results. and efficiency in the execution of public works, mainly due to variations in time and budget, the causes of these variations are due to multiple external and internal factors that vary to a greater and lesser extent in developing and developed countries, being greater in developing countries. development paths, so it is necessary to implement strategic planning actions, training in the preparation of terms of reference and/or technical specifications and update the regulatory framework in order to improve the well-being and quality of life of people and greater economic growth and development of countries.
