This review aimed to analyze the impact of principals’ educational support on teaching performance and student learning. In this context, it is important to highlight that the competencies provided by the director constitute a fundamental element for the integral development of the institution and are related to the improvement of work performance, progress in education and the knowledge acquired. Educational monitoring and support is a method of continuous monitoring of a teacher’s educational work that helps identify teachers’ strengths and performance needs and helps address results. Therefore, in this study, we describe the management and supervision skills of teachers in educational institutions and the characteristics of teaching support, and for this, the document analysis technique was used during document retrieval. The focus of the research is on qualitative, comparative, systematic, historical, inductive, deductive, and descriptive methods. The most notable results show that managers must demonstrate attitudes and skills that allow them to solve problems and disputes, cooperation and teamwork, and that they are, above all, leaders. For managers, the model they use is collaboration and intervention, while teachers see supervision and fellowship as monitoring and control strategies that prevent reflection and improve work.
