The realization of this scientific document had the objective of analyzing the importance of mathematical competences in education based on the discovery of relevant categories. The study was carried out considering a bibliographic methodology consulting different databases such as Scopus, Scielo, Google Scholar and Dialnet; the search used terms such as mathematical skills and learning in education; A total of 45 articles were analyzed in the results. Based on what has been reviewed, it is argued that there are a variety of categories that revolve in relation to mathematical competences and that are vital for their understanding and maximum benefit, such as strategies, technological resources, etc. It is inferred that the fact of having solid knowledge of mathematics fully favors students not only in their academic behavior, but also in their overall development.
