The central objective of this research was to develop a perspective on developing a dialectical perspective on how theoretical thinking has progressed in addressing public spaces, for future research, contributing to knowledge. Based on the review of authors and theories that have addressed the topic from a holistic perspective of public space, with a qualitative, bibliographic methodology, for the theoretical construct of concepts, positions and meanings as a state of the art. Having as a result, two main lines of thought: the spatial physical, and the existential, concluding that these lines of thought public space can be approached from two perspectives, one from morphology, the city towards the public space, that is, from the outside. to the interior and the other from the perception from the interior to the exterior, that is, the concept of public space should not be exclusive of either of the two perspectives, but rather complementary.
