Higher education institutions in Peru, including universities and technical institutes, play a crucial role in promoting comprehensive education and research, which are essential for sociohuman development and lifelong learning. This study aimed to describe the current state of formative research in Peruvian higher education. Using the PRISMA methodology, a focused search was conducted using relevant keywords, examining sources such as Redalyc, ResearchGate, Scielo, Dialnet, and Google Scholar. From this review, ten articles were selected and analyzed according to specific inclusion and exclusion criteria. It is concluded that formative research is a fundamental pillar for educational excellence, promoting cooperative and meaningful learning. The findings emphasize the importance of the research-based approach in the curriculum and its positive impact on the teaching-learning process, providing guidance for future educational policies and studies aimed at strengthening the research culture in Peruvian higher education. This work provides a solid foundation for continuous improvement and the development of research competencies among students, highlighting the need for educational strategies that integrate research as a cornerstone of meaningful learning.
